Welcome to the Church School at St. Francis!

Our church school program uses the "Workshop Rotation Model" to teach children about the love of God through kid-friendly workshops incorporating art, drama, music, games, puppetry, storytelling, cooking and mission/outreach projects.  Our lessons are lectionary-based, using Bible stories from the Revised Common Lectionary read during worship services each week.

Summer programs (beginning June 14/15)

  • Children's worship bulletins and crayons will be available each week at the door.
  • We will be offering a "Good News Theatre" movie series this summer!  Children up to eight years of age are welcome to go to the nursery on Sunday mornings (9:00 a.m.) to watch a video each week. If parents would like to get their children for the Eucharist at 9:30 a.m., they may. Otherwise the children will be welcome to stay in the nursery until the end of the service.
  • Many families travel or spend special time together during the summer.  Take Jesus with you!  A Jesus doll will be available for children to borrow as a reminder of who is with us wherever we go!  Families will be invited to take a picture with Jesus to display on the Church School bulletin board!

Fall Schedule and Registration

Church School is available for children ages three (by Sept. 1) through grade six.   Classes begin 15 minutes before both the Saturday (5 pm) service and the Sunday (10 am) service.  Children then return to the service to participate in the Eucharist. Susan Bastardo, a member of the staff at St. Francis, is the Church School Coordinator.  Members of our community volunteer to teach or assist in classrooms.

Rite 13 is the first segment in the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) curriculum designed for middle and high school students. Rite 13 is a Christian formation program for seventh and eighth grade-students that combines Bible study and experiential learning in an effort to help students connect Scripture to their daily lives.  The group meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 and occasionally in the evenings for special events.  Although the focus of the group is on Bible study, the group also participates in community service and fellowship activities.

Some of the major events of the 2007-2008 school year were:

  • the Soles for Souls Shoe Drive, a service project through which the group collected and donated over 100 pairs of shoes
  • creating  and leading the  Stations of the Cross for Palm Saturday
  • attending Lessons and Carols at Assumption College during Advent and Godspell  during Lent
  • pizza and movie night viewing and discussing Akeelah and the Bee

Robin Carlo is the Rite 13 program mentor.
